Job Description: SUMMARY Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Consultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers
- Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred)
- Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting
- Experience working with community college students
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Possess working knowledge of writing concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations
- Ability to explain concepts to others effectively
- Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
- Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
- Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment
- Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

- The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;
- The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;
- The employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and may perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there will be walking; standing; bending; stooping; and carrying of various items and equipment;
- Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
