Job Description: The Carpenter is responsible for performing a variety of "highway heavy" concrete carpentry tasks. Tasks include erecting and setting forms for concrete structures, foundations, bridges, boardwalks, etc. The Carpenter will work with EFCO forms, gang forms, etc.
This position requires regional travel (80%). Overnight travel is required.
A Day in the Life at Veit - Ability to read and understand drawings and prints.
- Build and/or assemble wood or metal forms for the construction of concrete floors, slabs, walls, columns, tilt-walls, elevated concrete slabs, elevator cores, decks, boardwalks, etc.
- Set and place forms to proper elevations and locations and may aid in installing reinforcing steel.
- Set and erect forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems.
- Verify accuracy of structures using a plumb bob, carpenters' level, laser and/or digital transit.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety policies and guidelines.
- Assist with placement of concrete as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need - At least two years' formwork/concrete construction experience as a Carpenter.
- Ability to follow applicable safety precautions. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations is also required.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Willingness to share knowledge / mentor junior crew members.
- OSHA 30
Other - Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be able to work 8 to 12-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. Must be flexible regarding work hours including evenings and weekends.
- Must be over the age of 18.
- Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.
- Must be willing to travel within the Midwest (80%). Overnight travel is required.

Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employees encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. Employee is exposed to environmental conditions, working near machines and loud noises associated with construction sites. Exposed to variable weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, cold and heat. Also exposed to variable terrain.
