Department Summary The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview The Research Assistant position will learn all the processes in the lab to be able to fill in for positions when needed, to also accommodate the fast evolvement of projects on all robotic equipment as well as manual techniques and will directly assist with required metrics for ITR Clinical Trials Core.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Clinical lab experience preferred
- Pipetting experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Advanced computer skills using a range of software programs including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SPSS, STATA, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively; perform other administrative/clerical tasks.
- Aptitude in general laboratory procedures, techniques, and documentation.
- Willingness to acquire competence in new techniques
Preferred Qualifications - Clinical lab experience preferred
- Pipetting experience
Required License/Registration/Certifications N/A
Job Duties: - ITR Clinical Trials samples, inventory, documentations and collaborations with the core
- EasyBlood maintenance, samples, inventory, daily events and documentations
- Biorepository prepare batches, collection of samples, all freezers maintenance, accession incoming samples and monitoring all freezers
- Blood Collection Kit preparation, maintenance and inventory
- Team support for backup on machines, inventory, maintenance, general lab upkeep, freezers, training, SOPs and policies
Work Schedule: - Monday - Friday; 8 AM - 5 PM
