Job Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:

CASES is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join the Rapid Response Team. A successful Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work closely with patients to provide comprehensive psychiatric care, including evaluating, diagnosing, and treating mental health disorders released from arraignments and enrolled in the Manhattan Supervised Release program. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible patient outcomes and may also be involved in educating patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options.

CASES’s Court Services department plays a pivotal role, offering court-mandated or endorsed programs throughout the criminal legal process. These programs, which include alternatives to detention and incarceration, are supported by the New York State Office of Court Administration and are integral to the judicial process. CASES collaborates with a broad network of stakeholders to provide these program options, benefiting thousands of defendants across various boroughs. The arraignment team's diligent screening of defendants for program eligibility, along with the intake assessment team's efforts to divert individuals into community-based programs, underscores CASES's commitment to its mission.

Salary: The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $170,000

Shift Hours: This position is full-time working rotating days from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

What you will be doing:

  • Rapidly assess and provide clinical interventions to individuals with immediate psychiatric needs from within the Manhattan Court buildings.
  • Provide individualized interventions to each client by mobile to various treatment providers.
  • Work collaboratively and creatively with the senior peer specialist for better health outcomes and prognosis for clients.
  • Conduct psychiatric assessments.
  • Create and maintain relationships with all courtroom stakeholders.
  • Assist clients, family members, and significant others with concern and empathy
  • Work in collaboration with clients, family, and other collaterals to support recovery goals.
  • Prescribe medications indicated by assessment to assist with improving psychiatric stability, teach clients about side effects, and monitor response to prescribed medications.
  • Complete buprenorphine training and obtain the waiver to prescribe.
  • Work collaboratively with internal (Nathaniel clinic) and external providers with specific goals and measurable objectives for inclusion in person/family-centered treatment plans.
  • Ensure services are person/family-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to individuals with active, immediate needs to enable improved bridging to ongoing continuing supportive treatment services.
  • Promote integration of primary care working collaboratively with the onsite Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) medical providers and the clinic’s nurses to ensure the effective delivery of health monitoring services.
  • Promote and deliver integrated treatment to consumers with co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Provide mentorship and training to the broader team about health disparities and psychiatric intervention.

What we are looking for:

  • A Nurse Practitioner degree with specialized training or experience in Psychiatry. A current license to practice as a nurse practitioner in the State of New York. Board certified preferable.
  • A current DEA registration for the prescribing of controlled substances. ANCC certification or pending application is required. NYS OPRA status approved or application pending and a Health Commerce Account in place by the onset of employment.
  • Extensive experience working with people with mental illness, serious mental illness and knowledgeable about risk assessment and risk management.
  • To be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists. You are required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Currently possess MAT DEA waiver or complete training within 6 months of hire and become eligible.
