There are two positions available. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list to fill future openings without reposting. Collections Development Library Assistant -The schedule is flexible and can include either two 7.5-hour days or three 5-hour days including one Saturday per month.
Circulation Library Assistant - The schedule is flexible, but would preferably include 3 five-hour shifts, including one Saturday per month.
What's this Job All About? Collections Development Library Assistant The role of a Collections Development Library Assistant is to help the Collections Development Librarian manage, update, and develop the library's collections of books (both print and digital), digital media, and reference databases system wide. The Collections Development Assistant Librarian assists with the selection, purchase, and tracking of materials, keeps documents on all cataloging details, collaborates with staff members to identify lending trends, and makes recommendations on new resources. Other duties include researching statistics and reporting national trends, technologies, and best practices for data sharing, especially electronic sources. Processing books, repairing books and materials, reviewing and cycling collections between branch locations, and helping the Collections Librarian ensure accurate and consistent database records are primary functions of this position. Visits to branch libraries, book shelving, organizing and shifting, and some front desk coverage would occur occasionally, as well as helping with inter-library deliveries. Physical demands include shifting shelves of books, boxing and carrying materials, and other semi-strenuous activities.
Circulation Library Assistant The role of the Library Assistant is to assist the Circulations Librarian in the general running of the library at the main branch in Colusa, as well as coverage at branch libraries as needed. This includes checking in and out materials for patrons, shelving materials, providing excellent customer support, and occasionally assisting with programming. Excellent customer service is paramount, as this position will spend most of its time on the main floor of the library. To maximize the time customers have, the Library Assistant will need to efficiently manage multiple tasks, follow library procedures, and be dependable.

WORK FOR THE COLUSA LIBRARY: WHERE KNOWLEDGE TAKES ROOT! Supervision & Examples of Duties Library Assistant I - Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.
May provide technical supervision to part-time clerical staff.
Qualifications Library Assistant I Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Six (6) months of experience in libraries, teaching, bookstores, or related clerical work involving working directly with the public.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Additional training in secretarial science or library science is highly desirable.
License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
Supplemental Information The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
