Gigi Hadid’s Sheer Lace AMAs Red Carpet Gown Is Even Better from Behind
by Rebecca Gillam
Gigi Hadid was one of the first big names to arrive at the 2016 American Music Awards red carpet, but she already won the game. The model and AMAs co-host turned heads in a sheer white lace Cavalli dress that showed off her incredible bod.
The curve-hugging stunner featured a ruffled off-the-shoulder neckline, long gloved sleeves, and see-through lace detailing, showing off her nude underpinnings. She paired the gown with a slicked-back ‘do, a pink lip, and a silver choker, perfectly combining two of the year’s hottest trends.
Don’t expect to see Hadid in a similar look, though, when she gets up on the stage to host with comedian Jay Pharoah. “It’s a bit different to kind of what I have for the show but I think that’s why I wanted to do that for the carpet. It’s kind of its own thing,” Hadid told E! on the red carpet about the Cavalli gown. We can expect at least five more looks from the 21-year-old before the show is over.
While the model admitted to being nervous for the big night, her calming pre-show ritual helped to get rid of those jitters. “Today I had a humidifier with some eucalyptus oil. Everyone that came in kind of felt that very mellow vibe,” she said. Hadid also enjoyed Fruit Loops in her dressing room and lit candles to achieve that relaxed atmosphere.
Having a few hours of practice under her belt also helped quiet her nerves. “I’m more calm after rehearsal. I feel like when I just have fun and let myself be a little weird and whatever, then it’s all good.”
Luckily, Hadid also has a support system in the audience to turn to: boyfriend and nominee Zayn Malik. While she’s rooting for him to win big, she’s been giving him some space before the show. “I haven’t been on the phone ‘cause I’ve been at rehearsal,” she said. “I should be checking in probably. I’m trying to do my host duties and not be the embarrassing girlfriend.”
When asked to describe the singer in just two words, she went with “wise and creative.” Swoon.
