Fifth Harmony are owning it right now
Fifth Harmony are undeniably one of the world’s biggest girl groups right now. Normani, Ally, Lauren, Camila and Dinah are in the middle of their 7/27 world tour, have just released their massive new single That’s My Girl and somehow found time to land an American Music Award earlier this month. Impressive.
But what happens when the girls finally get some down time? We sat down with Ally and Normani to talk their post-show chill out routine, what’s on their workout playlists and who gets their #WomanCrushWednesday.
Hey girls! You’re in the middle of your 7/27 tour right now, are you living out of a suitcase?
Normani: Yeah, I feel like for the past four years we’ve been living out of a suitcase, it doesn’t just stop at this tour.
What’s your top tip for handling that?
Ally: You definitely want to make sure you have all your essentials, look up the weather wherever you’re going and dress accordingly. Also, be prepared for when you travel a long distance and make sure you have a blanket and an eye mask – it really helps.
Are your dressing rooms hectic before a show?
Normani: Actually no! We have a pretty spacious room, it’s pretty chill.
How do you chill out after a show?
Ally: We usually take a shower because we’re all sweaty, just wash up and cool down. Sometimes on the bus we just talk to each other, ask how everybody’s night was, it’s nice to connect with everybody. Usually it’s Lauren, Normani, Dinah and I just hanging out, chilling, watching a movie.
What kind of movies do you watch?
Normani: Recently we’ve been watching scary movies because Dinah loves scary movies.

Have there been any wardrobe malfunctions on tour?
Normani: Honestly, Michael Costello did an amazing job at creating our costumes. I feel really comfortable, and nobody has to get pegged or taped in, we just slip them on.
Do you work with him to design your outfits?
Ally: Yes. We are definitely very particular in what we want. We have different body types and sizes and we want to be able to accentuate our own style. He’s so kind, so sweet and so patient and that’s why we adore him. He’s an outstanding designer.
Fifth Harmony is always on our workout playlists, what do you get sweaty to?
Normani: I listen to a lot of rap music, so Future, 2 Chainz, Kanye West, Drake, and then of course I love Beyoncé, she’s incredible.
If you could pick one song to be the theme tune of your life, what would it be?
Normani: I think I’m going to go with a Christian song, Hosannah. That music has guided me through so much. Anytime I’m in a struggle, I just play my Christian music.

Do you have any break-up songs for when you just need to cry it out?
Ally: Oh my gosh, there’s definitely songs that make you emotional. Adele’s Love In The Dark is really sad.
Your new single is called That’s My Girl, so who’s your #WomanCrushWednesday?
Normani: I’m gonna give it to Solange. She’s incredible and so deserving of her success. I love the fact that she doesn’t allow anybody to dictate her destiny, I love that she’s just herself all the time. She’s empowering people to love their own skin and wear their afro, and as a black woman I think that it’s such a beautiful thing to see. One day hopefully I’ll have a chance to rock it like she does, so gracefully and so beautifully. She’s doing her thing right now.
